Branding, styleframe design, illustration, motion graphics
The Real Sex Talk is a web series that educates Kiwi teenagers about sex in an approachable, yet informative manner. I designed the branding for this series as well as the range of animated emoji that were used throughout. TRST tackles some serious issues at times, so the design couldn’t be too lighthearted, but it also needed to be engaging and fun enough to get young people watching it, so I added colour and humour wherever possible.
Styleframe design, motion graphics
These styleframes were ones I created for a video for a client of mine. He had started a course that helps content creators like himself use their skills to better support themselves and their future work. I got a sort of psychology theory/social science vibe from this, so my initial design work was based on research I did on vintage psychology book covers.

During New Zealand’s lockdowns in April/May and July/August 2020 I was asked to work on a series of content pieces for the NZ Government’s Unite Against COVID-19 Facebook page. I worked on a range of creatives including colouring-in exercises, illustrated carousel posts, infographics and animated video posts. Every piece I worked on had to be very clear so that it could not be easily misinterpreted, while not being too sterile for the social media environment it lived in.
Logo design, print design, packaging
I designed the logo and packaging for Nelson-based gourmet popsicle company Goodpops. The client needed something to represent their hand-crafted, all-natural product and it had to stand out in a retail setting too. I went with bright, but not unnatural colours and friendly typography over a pattern of hand-drawn droplets.
Branding, styleframe design
In 2020, I collaborated with creative studio Southern Studios and environmental charities Live Ocean and Southern Seabirds Solutions Trust to propose a web series to NZ on Air. The series would centre around the Antipodean albatross, whose population is in steady decline as they frequently are caught by longline fishing vessels. When designing the look of this potential series I stressed the urgency of the problem these birds face, but made sure to highlight as many other interesting and emotive things about them as I could, so it wasn’t all doom and gloom.
Print design
I worked on the hoardings and other election campaign assets for Kirsten Wise’s 2019 mayoral bid in Napier. The campaign assets needed to be simple and direct, highlighting Wise’s policies and her genuine attitude. Wise won the election by a margin of over 8,000 votes.
Design, motion graphics
I created the graphics for Misadventures on TVNZ OnDemand. This included 2 - 3 of these profile graphics per episode, each of which was designed to highlight each person in the story and what made them unique. I painted the backgrounds of these and sourced the relevant imagery to layer over each one, so that each one could use the same basic layout but look totally different.
Print design, illustration
I was asked to design the invitations for Ryan and Caitlin’s wedding. The ceremony took place in the garden of Ryan’s family home and the reception in a local yacht club, so there was one invitation for each. I painted the imagery on the front of both of these invitations based off photographs of the locations.
Branding, illustration, motion graphics
Off the back of the success of The Real Sex Talk I was asked to work on the next series, this time about drug education. This series was under the same general brand as TRST but required a new colour scheme, a new set of individually-animated emoji and bespoke graphics for each episode.
